Defective Pacifiers Recalled Due to Choking Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission CPSC announced, March 24, 2009, that OKK Trading issued a voluntary recall of about 2,900 faulty pacifiers. According to the CPSC, the pacifiers sold under the name Baby Necessities Pacifiers are defective and pose a choking hazard to young children.

Defective Pacifiers Description

The defective Baby Necessities pacifiers have been described as having a blue heart-shaped mouth guard. They are sold in packages of four and the words “Baby Necessities? are printed on the cardboard packaging.

The faulty pacifiers were manufactured in China and sold, nationwide, at dollar and discount stores from August 2007 through January 2009.

Faulty Pacifiers Pose Choking Hazard

OKK Trading issued the pacifier recall following federal safety tests. The pacifiers failed the safety tests after the nipples separated from the base, creating a choking hazard. In addition to the recall, the pacifiers have also been banned under federal law.

No Child Injuries Reported

Despite the recall, there have been no reports of child injuries or choking accidents linked to the defective pacifiers. All parents who have purchased the Baby Necessities Pacifiers have been advised to stop use immediately however. The recall is also advising parents to contact OKK Trading for a refund or exchange.
